About Us

Growing Community

YEG Green Streets is a grassroots initiative advocating for programmable, sustainable, community green spaces and infrastructure. We work with communities and the City of Edmonton to provide landscaping solutions that beautify and highlight the unique identity of our neighbourhoods while building a sustainable green Edmonton.

Good for Everyone

In Edmonton we all want safe and accessible neighborhoods that are inclusive to the needs of all Edmontonians. Residents throughout Edmonton want to ensure the heritage and identity of their Community is not damaged through neighborhood renewal and other infrastructure initiatives. Residents want to take ownership and to ensure the beautification is not left to be the sole responsibility of City Administration where limited budgets and focus often result in poorly maintained or designed green spaces.

Using Best Practices

This project will look to best practices used in progressive cities globally (i.e. Rotterdam, Netherlands, Tuscon, Arizona, and Vancouver, British Columbia).  Closer to home we can look to our neighbor, the City of St. Albert, who very effectively uses landscaping to beautify and mitigate the dramatic impact of traffic calming architecture.   The video link to the left is taken from the City of Vancouver Green Streets program and will provide some context in terms of how the YEG Green Streets program will draw elements from the experience of this extremely successful Green Streets program.

YEG Green Streets is good for the Environment

The EPCOR LID (Low Impact Development) Program has been in place for a storm water management program since 2014 but has seen limited incorporation into neighborhood renewal or other infrastructure initiatives.  In Cities globally, environmentally sustainable green streets programs have been implemented that have effectively used similar storm water management design concepts as in LID.
